Nominees for the Absa Premiership End of Season Awards

The nominees for the 2010/2011 Absa Premiership Awards, in no particular order are:

Absa HOT Young Player:

Thulani Serero - Ajax Cape Town

• Eric Mathoho - Bloemfontein Celtic

• Andile Jali – Orlando Pirates



I have no qualms with these nominations. In my most humble opinion Thulani Serero should win this award unanimously.







Absa Premiership Goal Keeper of the Season:

Hans Vonk had to work with youngsters.

• Wayne Sandilands – Mamelodi Sundowns

• Patrick Tignyemb – Bloemfontein Celtic

• Hans Vonk – Ajax Cape Town

Kennedy Mweene of Free State Stars can consider himself unlucky to have been left out. He has had an outstanding season! Hans Vonk is my pick to walk away with this one.



Absa–lutely Awesome Goal:

• Knowledge Musona – MP Black Aces vs Kaizer Chiefs

• Tlou Segolela – Free State Stars vs Orlando Pirates

• Thulani Serero – Mamelodi Sundowns vs Ajax Cape Town



No contest. Knowledge Musona`s goal was one for the ages!







Absa Premiership Coach of the Season:

Clinton Larsen has done a lot with little.

• Ruud Krol – Orlando Pirates

• Foppe De Haan – Ajax Cape Town

• Clinton Larsen – Bloemfontein Celtic

At one point during the season it looked like Krol was just hours away from packing his bags. The dutch coach seemingly took in his orange shirt and put Bucs on a scintillating 17 game unbeaten streak. Foppe De Han turned down an offer to go back to his home country, opting instead to guide a very young outfit in displaying the most exciting brand of football of the season. After watching their first couple of games I honestly thought Celtic were going to be fighting the relegation battle this season. If one takes into account the resources that Clinton Larsen has at his disposal compared to the likes of Ajax, Pirates, Chiefs and Sundowns then for my money, Clint deserves to win this award.

Absa Premiership Player of the Season:

Andile Jali

• Jimmy Tau – Kaizer Chiefs

• Andile Jali – Orlando Pirates

• Thulani Serero – Ajax Cape Town

I think Happy Jele of Pirates had a better season at right back than Jimmy Tau but that`s just me. Jimmy Tau has been exposed defensively on quite a few occasions. Although I do think he deserves an award for putting up with Itumeleng Khune. Anyway the outright winner for this award is that dynamic midfield dynamo plying his trade in the Mother City, Thulani Serero!
